Scott Hamilton: Overcoming Adversity and Embracing Fatherhood

Kids' Pages Family Magazine | February 2006

Hamilton dominated the sport of figure skating in the 80s by capturing the '84 Men's Olympic Gold medal and went on to win four consecutive world championships, helped form the World Professional Skating Association, created Stars on Ice, battled testicular cancer, then retired from skating as a performer in 2003. With a resume like that, you'd think he might have slowed down a bit. Yet on this day, he juggled the photo shoot along with cellphone calls to ink a deal as consulting producer/host of the new TV reality show called Skating with Celebrities. The new show's concept is much like Dancing with the Stars, but with much more physical danger and what Hamilton says is a "very unpredictable surface."
